DAVE VASELENIUCK
Engine Builder & Co-Owner of SpeedCraft Racing

Dave Vaseleniuck's racing experience spans more than 35 years. At the beginning of his career as an engine builder Dave won three consecutive
championships in Windsor, Ontario, Canada from 1969 - 1971 while working at Diamond Racing Products. He focused on development for all the motor manufacturers and McClaren Racing engines.

In 1972 Dave built a big block Chevrolet for the World 600 in Charlotte and took it to the Allison brothers in Hueytown, Alabama, creating a foundation in Winston Cup Racing.
At Bobby Allison Racing he built big block Chevrolets for Winston Cup, Chrysler hemi engines and engines for the Sportsman Division which is known today as the Busch Series.

In 1973 Dave became head engine builder for Digard Racing with Donnie Allison, where his engines qualified first and finished in the top five many times. Due to his long association with Diamond Racing and General Motors, Digard was asked to be the first team to introduce the 350 version small block engine to Winston Cup. Darlington was the first race for the new engine and it took the pole, finishing fourth. As a result of the success of the small block engine Winston Cup changed its style.

Throughout the 1970 Dave continued with Bobby Allison and when the team started driving the Matador for Roger Penske, Dave was placed at Penske to coordinate the AMC engine development, another highly successful program. When Penske switched to Ford Dave continued development with more poles and wins. When Dave left the Allisons in the mid-80s he had built engines for Bobby Allison, Donnie Allison, Neil Bonnett, an Allison Protegee, and many other professional drivers.

Later, working independently, Dave managed large development contracts while continuing building racing engines for Donnie Allison. Research and development opportunities resulted in work in Sprint Car racing, drag racing and boat racing.

By the early 90s Dave managed and developed the engine program at Race Engine Design in Rossville, Georgia for professional teams all over the country.

In 1994 Dave moved to Charlotte as an independent contractor and engine specialist. He worked with two top ten Busch teams and four Craftman Truck teams.

By 1998 Dave had created D. Vaseleniuck Engine Development (VED) where he did the research and development and was head engine builder for ST Motorsports.

He was also the test engine builder and engine tuner for the Craftman Truck driven by Ron Hornaday. The team won the Craftman Truck Championship that year.

Most recently, Dave's company provided engines for the #91 Winston Cup team owned by Joe Falk and the engines for Ron Hornaday III.

VED also builds ARCA, Busch, Open Wheel Modified and Hooter's Cup Series engines.

The 2000 Winston West Champion, Brendan Gaughan, utilized Dave's expert craftmanship and engine building knowledge both at his engine shop and at the tracks to win the championship.

Dave continues as a consultant to Dana/Victor Reinz, Mr. Gasket and Clevite.

VED continues to provide the finest in engine research and development in the racing industry.
